Never hashed before? Perfect.
Here’s what to expect before you join us on a Wednesday. No speed required, no insider knowledge needed, and no pressure to pretend you know what “On On” means.
Walkers welcome
Come Solo
No pressure
You are welcome here.
Hashing can look strange from the outside. That is normal. The Harriets are here to make your first Wednesday easy, social, and fun.
You can turn up even if…
What actually happens?
A hare sets a mystery trail using flour, chalk, ribbons, checks, and arrows. The pack follows the marks, gets mildly confused, finds the way back, then circles up for songs, visitors, announcements, and makan.
Follow trail
Walk, jog, or run. The route is not about speed. It is about following trail and finding the pack.
Circle up
After trail, we gather for songs, shout-outs, visitors, first-timers, and a bit of harmless silliness.
OnOn/makan
After circle, we head for food, drinks, and social recovery. This is where many friendships actually start.
Can I walk?
Yes. Walkers are welcome. Some people run, some jog, some walk, and some specialise in strategic confusion. You do not need to keep up with the fastest people.
Good to know
What happens on trail?
A hare sets the route before we start. The pack follows marks such as flour, chalk, ribbons, arrows, and checks. Sometimes the trail is obvious. Sometimes it is not. That is part of the fun.
You can walk, jog or run. If you are new, stay with the group and ask questions. Someone will point you in the right direction eventually.
Things you may hear
Do not worry about learning every Hash term before you come. You will pick it up as you go.
Circle, songs and silliness
The circle is social and silly. Join in at your own comfort level.
What happens after trail?
After everyone gets back, we circle up. This is where the Harriets welcome visitors, thank the hares, sing a few songs, share announcements, and enjoy the ridiculous part of Hash tradition.
After circle, we usually head for makan nearby. You can stay for food, drinks, and a proper chat, or head off when you need to.
Down-downs are part of Hash tradition, but non-alcoholic options are welcome. No pressure drinking.
What should I bring?
You do not need fancy kit. Singapore is hot, humid, and sometimes muddy, so bring enough to stay comfortable before, during, and after trail.
Bring these
Best left at home: race-day intensity, brand-new white shoes, and drama.
How do I join this Wednesday?
Check the next run details, message us if you are unsure, then come along. You do not need to register weeks in advance or know a member first.
Simple first-timer plan
- Check the next run location
- Pack water, shoes and a dry top
- Arrive before 6 pm
- Tell someone it is your first time
- Walk, run, laugh, then stay for makan if you can
Coming alone is completely fine. Visitors and returnees are welcome.
First-timer FAQ
The short answer: come along, ask questions, and do not worry about knowing all the Hash nonsense before you arrive.
Still unsure? Message us before Wednesday and we will point you in the right direction.
