Songs

Songs are part of the circle, the down-downs, and the slightly questionable magic of hashing.

The aim is not to sing forever. It is to keep the circle moving, make the moment fun, and give everyone something easy enough to join in with.

Short and Sharp

A good circle song should be easy to start, easy to follow, and over before everyone forgets why they were standing there.

Cheeky, not nasty

Hash humour can be spicy without being cruel. The best songs get a laugh without making visitors or first-timers regret showing up.

More variety

Old favourites are fine, but a better song mix keeps the circle fresh and gives newer hashers more ways to join in.

The Tired Hasher

Tune: Itsy Bitsy Spider

Battle Hymn of the Hasher

Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic
View lyrics

His eyes have seen the horror of the steepness of the trail,
His ears have heard the whining of the whinging hashers’ tale,
His lips have felt the passing of this nation’s finest ale,
This hasher’s done it all.

Glory, glory, ale and lager,
Glory, glory, ale and lager,
Glory, glory, ale and lager,
Now drink it down, down, down.

Hash Benediction

Tune: Recital / prayer style

Let the moon so brightly shine,
Leading us to beer so fine.

Hasher’s Prayer

Tune: Recital / prayer style
View lyrics

God bless Gispert, hallowed be his name.
His hash be laid on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily beer.
And forgive us our ah-shits,
As we also forgive those who annoyed us.
And lead us not unto temptation to short-cut,
But deliver us to the On-In.
For the beer is cold,
And the pack is thirsty,
For ever and ever,
Amen.

Slightly softened wording for public use.

Our Lager

Tune: Prayer
View lyrics

Our lager,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink.
Thy will be drunk,
I will be drunk,
At home as in the tavern.
Give us this day our foamy head,
And forgive us our spillages,
As we forgive those who spill against us.
And lead us not into incarceration,
But deliver us from hangovers.
For thine is the beer, the bitter, and the lager,
Barmen.

Classic beer prayer. Good for hash history or circle.
